Absent Friends

We welcome the return of our light, easy-drinking, fruit-driven white with our fifth vintage of Absent Friends – a blend of Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Enticingly fruity on the nose, tropical fruit and pineapple on the palate with a crisp, clean finish, this wine can be enjoyed with seafood and light salads.

2004 Top Block Chardonnay

Handpicked in early February following continuing drought conditions, this chardonnay displays light straw/gold with tinges of green in colour and white peach/ melon characters underlined by savoury spices on the nose. The palate is full and flavoursome with melons supported by rich caramel (French) oak, finishing with refreshing acidity. Serve with shellfish. 1 Silver medal

2005 Top Block Chardonnay

Handpicked in February in ongoing drought, tonnages continued to fall. Fortunately, quality was outstanding. Pale straw in colour, the wine displays peaches and white nectarines on the nose, which persist through to the palate. Long, full and well rounded, the wine finishes crisp and clean with a delicately lingering toasty cashew nut aftertaste. Enjoy with seafood. 4 stars WINESTATE Annual Edition 2007

Fond Memories

Continuing the outstanding popularity of this wine which sells out in months, our latest release has been made in the same style and is bottled under the screwcap. Made from Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc and brilliant garnet in colour, the wine displays fresh strawberry and raspberry characters on the nose. The palate is laced with attractive strawberry/raspberry/cherry with underlying hints of confectionery. This wine has good length and pleasant mouthfeel, finishing with subtle dryness. Enjoy with spicy foods. Serve chilled.

2003 Jaan Shiraz

Drought combined with the effects of a spring hailstorm resulted in reduced tonnages. This only helped to intensify the flavours and structure of this shiraz. Purple with crimson hues, the nose displays black fruits, plums and overtones of cherries. These fruits follow through to the palate and blend with the French oak to show characteristic Hunter earthiness. The wine finishes firm and dry. Enjoy with chargrilled beef.

Handpicked mid-late February, our first 3 way blend is deep purple in colour with attractive cherries, blackcurrant/black fruits and mint on the nose. Extending to a long and mouth filling experience on the palate, the wine finishes with firm, drying tannins and lingering subtle spices. 2007 Tall Tales & True Fortified (500ml)

Our first vintage of a fortified (Port style) wine is made of estate grown Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is brilliant purple in colour and has a heady blackberry/mulberry crumble nose. Aged spirit combines with ripe dark berry fruit flavours on the palate to create a smooth, seductively complex experience thus allowing an early appreciation of this wine. The finish has a satisfying, mellow warmth. Enjoy with chocolate desserts, cheeses or with coffee & petit fours.

2005 Good Company (500ml)

This is the second vintage of our unique cross between an ice wine and a French Sauternes style. It is made of a 50% Semillon/ 50% Sauvignon Blanc base, was fermented hot in new French oak hogsheads and then matured for 15 months in oak. Toffee apple aromas on the nose extend to the palate to combine with luscious lemon butter. The experience finishes with a long refreshing firm acid/pineapple lift. Enjoy with Gorgonzola Mascarpone or fresh forest fruits with vanilla whipped cream.
